On Criticism or Attacks: Distinguishing between them
Jul 7th, 2008 by admin
This question came in by email from a reader. -gw
Is it your contention that the Baha’i Faith is impervious to or doesn’t
deserve criticism? It seems that any criticism of the Baha’i Faith is
labelled as an ‘attack’ by some. Why is that?
My response….
Thanks Kar for your inquiry. Of course the Faith has been, is, and will be, subject to tremendous scrutiny and criticism by a watching world as it continues to grow. There is nothing wrong with this criticism. Within the Baha’i community members are invited to offer their constructive criticism for the betterment of the community as a whole, as this quote from the Baha’i Writings on my sidebar describes: ”…it is not only the right, but the vital responsibility of every loyal and intelligent member of the Community to offer fully and frankly, but with due respect and consideration to the authority of the Assembly, any suggestion, recommendation or criticism he conscientiously feels he should in order to improve and remedy certain existing conditions or trends in his local Community.”

But as you may be aware, there are “pernicious elements” and “avowed enemies” of the Baha’i Faith whose statements cannot be described as mere criticism, but which can more appropriately be described as attacks. Baha’is have every right to defend the Faith against these attacks, at the same time they have the opportunity to lovingly and patiently respond to the well-meaning questions and criticism of those who are sincerely questioning.

GW,
This is a great visualization and in my opinion very accurate. Some very vocal people simply don’t realize that there are indeed proper channels and prescribed ways to go about giving your two cents.
I will add your site to my blog.
